The insurance carriers have noticed that you may be experiencing stress and financial hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the Stay-at-Home order by the government, fewer drivers are on the road, which means fewer accidents. With this in mind, personal auto insurance carriers are beginning to announce credit refunds from the premiums of April and May in Personal Auto policies.
The refunds will begin in April and will be issued either by check or in the manner the consumer made his/her most recent payment. The payments will happen automatically, and consumers do not need to call the insurance carrier to receive the refund. The insurance carriers listed below have made announcements to offer payment flexibility options, waived late fees and refunds.
Safeco
a. 15% refund
b. No non-pay cancellations and no late charges from March 23 to May 22
c. Delivery coverage expansion for Personal Auto policies for losses occurring from March 16 to May 22, and reported by July 1
Progressive
a. 20% refund
b. No non-pay cancellations from April 1 to May 15
MetLife
a. 60-day grace period for non-payment prior to receiving cancellation notice. If your grace period is longer than 60 days, you will keep the favorable grace period.
b. Premium deferrals up to 30 days, per insured’s request. Late fees waived, per insured’s request.
Nationwide
a. $50 refund
b. No non-pay cancellations and no late charges starting March 11
Liberty Mutual
a. 15% refund
b. No late fees for the time being
Mercury
a. 15% refund
